What is the London ULEZ?
TfL's Ultra Low Emission Zone charges drivers of polluting vehicles £12.50 per day inside Greater London. Started Central in 2019, expanded to all of Greater London in August 2023.
Which cars are ULEZ compliant?
Petrol: Euro 4 (registered after January 2006). Diesel: Euro 6 (after September 2015). Most hybrids after 2018, all EVs, and all LEVC TX / TXE black cabs pass.
How much is the ULEZ daily charge?
£12.50 per calendar day for non-compliant vehicles. Applies 24/7 every day except Christmas Day. ANPR enforced; non-payment is a £180 PCN (£90 if paid within 14 days).
How accurate is this checker?
We use official DVLA records and apply the TfL ULEZ rules. Reliable for 95%+ of common vehicles. For historic, specialist, MoD, or retrofitted vehicles, use the official TfL checker for an authoritative answer.
I'm a private hire driver, does ULEZ affect me?
Yes. A non-compliant PHV costs £12.50 per shift on top of hire, often wiping a day's earnings. Most private hire drivers have switched to hybrids or the LEVC TX. If you haven't, the maths usually points to selling up.
Is there a scrappage scheme for non-compliant vehicles?
TfL closed the main scrappage scheme in late 2024. Selling to a specialist who can route the vehicle to export or commercial buyers usually pays more than scrappage did. The form takes 60 seconds and a real buyer makes a firm offer within 2 hours.
Will my reg be saved or shared?

Does it work for vans and motorbikes?
Yes. Vans: petrol Euro 4, diesel Euro 6. Motorbikes: Euro 3 (after July 2007).
Where is the ULEZ?
All of Greater London up to (but not including) the M25. The Congestion Charge zone in Central London is separate; non-compliant vehicles there pay £15 + £12.50 daily.
What if my cab fails the check?
Two options. One: switch to a compliant vehicle (hybrid Prius, LEVC TX, or any EV). Two: sell to a specialist who knows the export and regional-fleet markets. Generalist buyers can't resell a non-compliant vehicle in London, so they pay you less for it.
