The Nissan models we buy
What we look for in each model.
The honest detail. Mileage ranges we see in our pipeline, common faults at the high end of that range, and how each spec affects the offer.
Leaf (ZE0, AZE0, ZE1)
30,000 to 180,000 miles
The original mass-market EV. 24 kWh Mk1 (2011 to 2017) is the entry-tier PHV at this point, real-world 70 to 90 miles. 40 kWh Mk2 (2018 onwards) is the volume PHV-Leaf, real-world 130 to 160 miles. 62 kWh e+ (2019 onwards) is the long-range halo, real-world 200 to 230 miles. We see 25 to 40 Leaf per quarter across all variants.
Common at the high end
Battery degradation on early 24 kWh Mk1 cars (capacity bar drop, factor into the offer)
CHAdeMO charging port flap on Mk1 cars (cosmetic but uncommon now post-2017 facelift)
12V auxiliary battery wear on all variants (£100 fix)
Qashqai e-Power (J12)
15,000 to 80,000 miles
Series-hybrid mid-size SUV launched 2022. The 1.5 turbo petrol acts purely as a generator for the electric motor; the wheels are always driven by electricity. Popular with family chauffeur operators who want EV-like smoothness without plug-in routine. We see 10 to 18 per quarter, mostly Tekna and Tekna+ trim.
Common at the high end
Rear washer pipe routing leaks at higher mileage (£40 fix)
Infotainment Apple CarPlay disconnect on 2022 cars (firmware refresh from Nissan dealer)
Front lower control arm bush wear at 70k+ (£300 fix)
X-Trail e-Power (T33)
10,000 to 50,000 miles
The 7-seat version of the e-Power powertrain. Real family-chauffeur SUV that handles airport runs with luggage-heavy bookings. We see 6 to 12 per quarter, mostly Tekna and Tekna+ with the e-4ORCE AWD. Lower volumes than Qashqai but commands a £1,500 to £3,000 premium for chauffeur operators who need the third row.
Common at the high end
Rear tailgate strut wear (cheap fix, but check on collection)
Third-row seat folding mechanism intermittent at 30k+ on Tekna trim
Infotainment touchscreen drift at 40k+ (firmware refresh)
What affects your Nissan offer
Honest factors. Not all of them are obvious.
Leaf battery state (HV pack capacity bars)
We check pack capacity at collection using LeafSpy Pro or a similar OBD2 diagnostic. 24 kWh Mk1 Leaf with 8 or 9 capacity bars (out of 12) is the volume entry-PHV; 7 bars or fewer trades £400 to £900 lower. 40 kWh Mk2 Leaf with 11 or 12 bars commands a £400 to £700 premium over a Mk2 at 10 bars.
62 kWh e+ premium
Leaf e+ (62 kWh) commands £2,000 to £3,500 over a same-age 40 kWh Leaf because the real-world range (200 to 230 miles vs 130 to 160) opens up airport-run chauffeur work that the 40 kWh can't reliably support. We pay close to retail-trade for clean e+ stock.
Nissan main-dealer service stamps
Nissan main-dealer service history (Glyn Hopkin, Westover, etc.) adds £200 to £500 over independent service. Nissan You+ service plans transfer with the vehicle which adds £200 to £400 because the next operator gets remaining services at the agreed Nissan rate.
Both keys + charging cables (Leaf)
Missing the spare key knocks £100 to £200 off a Leaf offer (key cut + program is £180 at most franchises). For the Leaf, the granny charger (3-pin domestic) and Type 2 charging cable are part of the original delivery; missing them knocks another £100 to £200 because the next operator has to replace them.
e-Power vs traditional hybrid
Nissan e-Power Qashqai and X-Trail trade roughly £800 to £1,500 above equivalent traditional petrol-only Qashqai because of the EV-like smoothness and lower running costs. They're not ULEZ-exempt (still emit at the tailpipe), but they sit firmly in the ULEZ-compliant tier for TfL PHV licensing.
Nissan market, today
Where Nissan prices are right now.
Nissan intake is steady. 24 kWh Mk1 Leaf trades £4,500 to £8,500 for clean stock with 9+ capacity bars. 40 kWh Mk2 Leaf trades £9,500 to £14,500. 62 kWh e+ commands £14,000 to £19,500 for clean 2019 to 2021 stock. Qashqai e-Power Tekna trades £21,000 to £27,000 for clean 2022 to 2023 stock. X-Trail e-Power Tekna+ is the highest-margin Nissan we buy at £32,000 to £40,000 for clean 2022 to 2024 stock with e-4ORCE AWD. We place clean Leaf stock within 14 to 21 days; e-Power Qashqai and X-Trail typically within 7 to 14.
Nissan FAQ
Common questions.
How much does the Leaf battery capacity drop reduce my offer?
It depends on the variant. On a 24 kWh Mk1 Leaf, dropping from 12 bars to 8 bars costs roughly £400 to £700; below 8 bars takes another £400 to £900. On a 40 kWh Mk2, the drop is smaller (£300 to £600 from 12 to 10 bars) because the absolute range loss is less impactful for PHV use. We check capacity at collection with LeafSpy or equivalent.
I have a Qashqai e-Power. Is the petrol engine going to fail like a traditional CVT?
No. The 1.5 turbo petrol on e-Power runs as a generator only, never directly driving the wheels. It runs at constant optimal RPM and is significantly less stressed than the same engine in a traditional CVT application. Documented services are still important but the wear pattern is genuinely different and trade buyers price accordingly.
Does the Leaf e+ qualify for ULEZ-compliant PHV in London?
Yes. All Leaf variants (including the 24 kWh Mk1) are zero-emission and qualify out of the box for TfL ULEZ-compliant PHV licensing. The 62 kWh e+ opens up airport-run chauffeur work that the 40 kWh struggles with because of the real-world 200+ mile range.
My X-Trail e-Power has the e-4ORCE AWD. Does that add value?
Yes, £800 to £1,500 over front-wheel-drive equivalent. The chauffeur buyer pool for AWD 7-seat SUVs extends to northern operators (Manchester, Edinburgh) where winter conditions matter; that broader pool firms the trade-in price meaningfully.
