The Tesla models we buy

What we look for in each model.

The honest detail. Mileage ranges we see in our pipeline, common faults at the high end of that range, and how each spec affects the offer.

Model 3 (Standard Range, Long Range, Performance)

40,000 to 180,000 miles

The default executive EV in 2024-2026 PHV fleets. Long Range RWD is the operator's choice, 358-mile WLTP range, single-motor reliability, lower insurance group than Performance. We check pack capacity via the Tesla app at collection.

Common at the high end

  • 12V auxiliary battery wear at 4+ years (about £250 to replace)
  • Door handle motor on cold mornings (universal Tesla issue, recall covered on early VINs)
  • Yoke steering on facelift cars, some drivers prefer the round-wheel retrofit

Model Y (Long Range, Performance)

20,000 to 100,000 miles

The Model 3's larger sibling, same drivetrain, more boot, taller stance. Popular with chauffeur companies and Uber Black operators who want EV credentials with executive comfort. Tow hitch option adds genuine value.

Common at the high end

  • Rear hatch alignment on early build cars (Tesla mobile service fix)
  • Wind noise from frunk seal on cars built before mid-2023
  • 12V auxiliary battery, same pattern as Model 3

Model S (pre-2022)

70,000 to 180,000 miles

Less common in PHV intake now, the Model 3 and Y have replaced it as executive EV of choice. When we do see them, it's usually 90D / 100D cars with 100k+ miles. Battery pack age matters far more than mileage on these.

Common at the high end

  • Door handle motor (universal Tesla issue, often covered under warranty extension)
  • Air suspension compressor failure
  • MCU1 eMMC corruption on pre-2018 cars (recall now covered by Tesla)

What affects your Tesla offer

Honest factors. Not all of them are obvious.

Battery health beats mileage

We plug into the car at collection and read pack capacity directly. A 150k Model 3 with 92% pack health is worth more than a 60k car with 84%. Tesla's own app reports degradation; we verify it against an OBD2 cell-level read.

Autopilot configuration

Base Autopilot is standard. Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) adds £1,500 to the offer. Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD) adds £4,000+ on a Model 3. We check what is enabled in the car's software at collection, the original purchase add-on transfers with the car.

Factory options worth knowing

Tow hitch on Model Y adds £600. Heat pump (retrofit on 2021+ Model 3) adds £400 to £800 because it preserves winter range. Tesla aero wheels (18 inch) improve real-world range by 6 to 8% vs 19 inch Sport wheels and are easier to sell to PHV buyers tracking per-mile cost.

Recall completion + software updates

We check Tesla's recall record at collection. Cars with all recalls completed and recent software updates installed are easier for our buyer network to redeploy. A car that has missed two recalls is not a deal-breaker but we factor in the workshop time.

Lease vs owned

Recent Tesla leases (2023+) typically do not allow buyout. If your car is on a lease, send us the lease provider name and end date and we will tell you whether a buyout is even possible before you commit to anything. Older leases (pre-2023) usually do allow buyout, and we settle direct.

Tesla market, today

Where Tesla prices are right now.

Tesla pricing in 2026 has stabilised after the 2023-2024 price war. We pay close to retail-trade for clean Long Range Model 3s with documented battery health. Model Y is firmer than Model 3 because demand from chauffeur and executive PHV operators is outstripping fleet replacement supply. Older Model S still sells but to a smaller niche, usually back to enthusiast resellers rather than PHV operators.

Tesla FAQ

Common questions.

Does the Tesla 12V battery issue affect my offer?

Not significantly. The auxiliary 12V battery is a £250 service item, not a structural fault. We expect to replace it on any Tesla over 4 years old. A documented replacement (Tesla mobile service receipt) is a small plus. A live warning on the screen at collection is a small minus, not a deal-breaker.

My Model 3 is on Tesla's lease. Can I sell it?

Only at lease-end if your lease provider offers a buyout option, which varies. Recent Tesla leases (2023+) typically do not allow buyout, you have to return the car. Older leases (pre-2023) often do. Tell us the lease provider (it is not always Tesla directly, could be Lex Autolease, Hitachi Capital, ALD) and the lease end date, and we will tell you whether we can buy it now or whether you should wait.

What is the actual resale difference between Long Range and Performance?

Performance commands a £1,500 to £2,500 premium when clean and with the Track Mode brakes intact. But it is a smaller buyer pool, most PHV operators want Long Range for the longer range and lower insurance group. If you are choosing which to buy as a working asset, LR usually makes more money in the long run because it is easier to exit.

I have Full Self-Driving enabled. Does that transfer with the car?

Yes, FSD is tied to the vehicle's VIN, not your Tesla account, so it transfers automatically at handover. We verify it is enabled before we leave. FSD adds £4,000+ to our offer compared with an equivalent Model 3 on base Autopilot.
